What are the factors that affect the performance of non-woven masterbatches?

The following are the factors that affect the performance of non-woven masterbatches:

Raw material

non-woven masterbatche Colorant:

Type: Different kinds of colorants performance difference is large, inorganic pigments such as titanium dioxide, carbon black, etc., has good heat resistance, weather resistance and chemical stability, but the color types are relatively few; Organic pigment has bright color and strong coloring power, but its weather resistance and heat resistance are relatively poor. Composite pigments combine the advantages of both.

Quality: The purity and fineness of the colorant will affect the performance of the masterbatch. The colorant with high purity, small fineness and uniform distribution can be better dispersed in the carrier, so that the color of the masterbatch is more bright and uniform, and the coloring power is stronger.

Carrier:

Type: The compatibility of carrier resin and non-woven raw materials is very important. Commonly used carriers are polypropylene, polyethylene, etc., if the compatibility is not good, it will lead to uneven dispersion of the color masterbatch in the non-woven fabric, affecting the color stability and mechanical properties of the product.

Performance: The properties of the carrier resin itself, such as melting point, fluidity, thermal stability, etc., will also affect the performance of the masterbatch. For example, the melting point of the carrier is too high or too low, which may narrow the processing temperature range of the color masterbatch in the production process of non-woven fabrics, affecting the processing performance and product quality.

Dispersant:

Type: Different types of dispersants have different dispersion effects on pigments. Common dispersants are low molecular wax, stearic acid and its salts, polyethylene wax, etc. According to different pigments and application needs, it is necessary to choose the right dispersant to achieve good dispersion effect.

Dosage: The amount of dispersant also needs to be strictly controlled. When the amount is insufficient, the pigment is easy to agglomerate, which affects the dispersion and color uniformity of the masterbatch. Excessive dosage may lead to a decline in the performance of the masterbatch, such as reducing the fluidity of the melt and affecting the mechanical properties of the product.

Production technology

Mixing process: The type of mixing equipment, mixing speed, mixing time, etc., will affect the degree of mixing uniformity between the colorant, carrier and dispersant. Uneven mixing will lead to uneven distribution of pigment content in the color masterbatch, and problems such as color spots and color differences will affect the appearance quality of non-woven fabrics.

Grinding process: the fineness and evenness of grinding have an important effect on the properties of the masterbatch. The fineness of grinding is not enough, the pigment particles are large, which will reduce the color brightness and hiding power of the color masterbatch, and also easily cause the particle feeling of the surface of the non-woven fabric; Uneven grinding will lead to different pigment particle sizes, affecting the dispersion and stability of the masterbatch.

Granulation process: improper control of temperature and pressure in the granulation process will make the shape of the masterbatch irregular and the size uneven, which will affect the feeding uniformity and fluidity in the production of non-woven fabrics, and ultimately affect the color consistency and quality stability of non-woven fabrics.

Formula design

Proportion of each component: The proportion between the colorant, carrier, dispersant and other components needs to be precisely adjusted. Reasonable proportion can make the masterbatch achieve the best balance in color, dispersibility and processing property. If the proportion is out of proportion, the color may be too dark or too light, poor dispersion, poor spinnability and other problems.

Additive addition: According to the special performance requirements of non-woven fabrics, some additives will be added, such as antioxidants, light stabilizers, antistatic agents, flame retardants, etc. Improper selection of the type and dosage of these additives may interact with other components, affect the performance of the color masterbatch, and even adversely affect the performance of the non-woven fabric.

Conditions of use

Processing temperature: The processing temperature in the production process of non-woven fabrics is high, if the heat resistance of the color masterbatch is insufficient, the pigment may decompose and discolor at high temperatures, resulting in color distortion and poor stability of non-woven fabrics.

Residence time: The residence time of the color masterbatch in the processing equipment is too long, which will also increase the risk of thermal decomposition of the pigment, so it is necessary to select the appropriate color masterbatch and its addition amount according to the specific production process and equipment conditions to ensure that the color masterbatch can maintain good performance within the specified residence time.

Compatibility with other additives: In the production of non-woven fabrics, in addition to the masterbatch, other additives may be added, such as fillers, plasticizers, etc. The compatibility between the masterbatch and these additives is not good, and chemical reactions or physical interactions may occur, affecting the performance and quality of non-woven fabrics, such as color changes, mechanical properties, processing properties, and other problems.
